Civil Recovery

Police Introduction

In 2000, RLP established operating procedures for Civil Recovery and agreed guidelines with the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO). In 2004, RLP established operating procedures for Civil Recovery and agreed guidelines with the Association of Chief Police Officers Scotland (ACPOS). As a result of ongoing review, these agreements are no longer current. RLP in conjunction with its clients in 2010 have produced revised operating procedures for Civil Recovery to ensure these protocols fit with the crime profile of society today and these have been sent to both ACPO and ACPOS for review in line with current legislation.

Retail civil recovery is a method used by many retailers to recover losses, damages and expenses (such as the cost of apprehending the wrongdoer, security costs and damage/loss to goods or property) directly from shop thieves. Trespass to goods has been established as part of the English law of tort for hundreds of years.

RLP have had a series of meetings with the British Transport Police and are now assisting some railway companies in addressing crime committed on railway networks by means of civil recovery.
